Ritchie Bros
Context

Ritchie Bros. is a global auction company that facilitates the buying and selling of used industrial equipment and machinery across various industries through live and online auctions, offering transparent and efficient solutions since its establishment in 1958.

Ritchie Bros had an existing app on the App Store. After their initial release they wanted to redesign the app to have a modern UI, new features, and the same experience on android and iOS. After the release of their new web experience and the acquisition of other brands/competitors they wanted to unify their experience for the customers across various devices, platforms and brands.

Result

Our team was brought in to lead a Product Sprint - an extended version of a design sprint. Before the design sprint portion I had meetings with stakeholders, tech leads, product owners, and business leaders to understand the users pain points, organize existing research, compile design assets, and document the current user flow.

During the design sprint I researched competitors, found inspiration, facilitated design sprint workshops, designed a new UI/Prototype and conducted user testing.

After the alignment workshop we concluded that helping customers find and compare items to purchase was key to the product's success. In our Solution Workshop of our design sprint we decided to prototype and test a compare feature, wishlist feature. I wrote a script for the prototype and lead the testing with multiple customers of Ritchie Bros.

The test had a positive result. The customers enjoyed the new compare and wishlist features, as well as the updated UI. We also found some areas of the prototype that were not as intuitive as we hoped. We iterated on these areas to create a better experience.
